NOW ONLINE REGISTRATION IN THE CONTACT DATABASE
Do you want to contact a colleague in Europe? But you don’t have the e-mail address? There is a very good chance that you will find it in the ENCORA Contact Database! Already over 2300 colleagues are listed in this European database, including experts from the North African countries and Russia. Besides the e-mail address, you find information on the institution where your colleague is working. You can also launch a search with the Contact Database, looking for colleagues registered in one of the national networks or in an ENCORA theme network.

Would you like your colleagues to be able to easily contact you? Then register in the Contact Database! You may provide more information than just your address and your institute. Some of your colleagues have already entered information on their professional expertise. Others have linked their personal website.

You may now enter or edit your contact information online. The procedure is explained on the website. By providing more information on your professional experience, some of your colleagues may find out that you would be an ideal partner for sharing knowledge and experience. This may be the start of a fruitful cooperation and provide opportunities for preparing together proposals for European cooperation programmes like FP7 or Interreg. The Contact Database is hosted and maintained by the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) that will maintain this service also when the EU funding of ENCORA has ended.

 COASTAL WIKI GAINS POPULARITY
As our readers already know, the Coastal Wiki is a major tool for realising the ENCORA objectives “Sharing knowledge and experience on practical coastal issues, throughout Europe” and ‘Transferring knowledge from science to practice”. The number of Coastal Wiki articles and definitions increases from day to day (presently almost 900); the latest addition is an inventory of coastal dunes in Europe. A few hundred coastal professionals visit the Coastal Wiki each day and this number is steadily growing.

We asked the European Commission what they think of using the Coastal Wiki for other EU-funded projects and received the following answer:
“The value and take up potential of the Coastal Wiki lies with its stakeholder community, which seems to be highly motivated and of a sufficient critical mass to ensure its sustainability. As such, we are confident that the initiative will continue to grow and provide a unique platform for ICZM in Europe, and beyond.”

The reply also indicated that, of course, the Commission has to take a neutral position with respect to promoting products of specific projects, but that they are “agreeable to informally promoting the use of the Coastal Wiki by other relevant projects related to marine and coastal management.”

The Coastal Wiki is especially well tailored for communicating FP7 coastal and marine project results to policy and practice. It complements existing specialised journals where scientists communicate original research results for fellow experts. It will therefore be used for instance by MARBEF, SPICOSA and CONSCIENCE. Projects using the Coastal Wiki can ask for a private space for collaborative authoring; final articles are transferred to the open Coastal Wiki.
